What is Grandfather-Father-Son Method

It’s the most accepted technique of media rotation. In this method, illustrate as below:
  - Daily backup (son) are made over the course of a week.
  - The earlier daily backup media are then rotated to reuse as backup media for the sequence weeks
  - The final backup taken during the week become the backup of that week (father)
  - The earlier weekly backup media are then rotated to reuse as backup media for the sequence months
  - At the end of the month, the final weekly backup is retained as the backup for that month (grandfather)
